Discovering the Heritage Behind Danes Park
Set against the backdrop of New Milton’s rich and evolving history, Danes Park is more than just a new place to live – it’s part of a living story that dates back centuries.
From its roots in the Domesday Book, where it appeared as “Mildeltune” (Middle Farm), to the bustling market town it is today, New Milton has always been shaped by the people and places that call it home. The arrival of the railway in 1888 transformed the area, sparking growth, new opportunities, and a community spirit that still thrives.
Our location is closely tied to the neighbouring Stanleys Estate, once a grand country home with its own fascinating past. Figures such as Commander Orlando Gunning-Sutton, Lady Harpur Crewe, and the Jobling family all played their part in shaping this land – and their stories live on in the very road names at Danes Park. From Orlando Avenue to Jobling Gardens, each name is a tribute to the area’s history.
During the 1940s, the estate supported the war effort by hosting evacuees and providing land for food production. Post-war, it became a place of refuge, entertainment, and eventually, reinvention – echoing New Milton’s own journey into modernity.
Today, Danes Park blends that proud heritage with contemporary village life. We’re proud to celebrate the stories that came before, while creating a new chapter for generations to come.
